The actor Ian McKellen had an emotional breakdown on the set of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ after acting in complete isolation in front of a green screen. 🥹🎬 To make the character Gandalf appear much taller than Bilbo and the dwarves, Ian McKellen was separated from the rest of the cast and filmed alone on a green-screen set. The other actors were represented by photographs on stands, with small lights indicating who was speaking, while their voices were coming through an earpiece. The process became so difficult for Ian McKellen, that he broke down in tears and considered quitting acting. He later recalled thinking, “This is not why I became an actor.” The director Peter Jackson noticed how difficult it was for him and eventually reduced the amount of green-screen work McKellen had to do, and he ultimately continued with the production and returned for both of the film’s sequels. 🎥 #thehobbit #peterjackson #fyp #explore
