Vishnu says smile 🦏🧡 In advance of tomorrow's celebration of #WorldRhinoDay, we begin by highlighting 23-year old male Greater One-Horned rhino Vishnu who can be found in the Indo-Malaya region of your Toronto Zoo. Are you aware? Greater One-Horned Rhinos are listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, with only a few thousand remaining in the wild. Habitat loss, fragmentation and poaching continue to threaten their future, but their story is also one of hope. From fewer than 200 individuals remaining in the early 1900s to more than 4,000 today, the Greater One-Horned Rhino represents an incredible conservation comeback, made possible through decades of dedicated protection and conservation efforts by many partners 🦏 Locally and here at your Toronto Zoo, Vishnu has his own remarkable story.
