You might know of Peggy’s Cove, but do you know how it got its name? There are two versions of the story, we’ll let you decide which to believe. One version, which is more obvious, traces the name back to St. Margaret’s Bay, where the lighthouse is located. The cove was originally called Margaret’s Cove, which was eventually shortened to Peggy’s Cove. The second version comes from “This is Peggy’s Cove”, a book by local artist William deGarthe. In it, he tells the story of a shipwreck survivor named Margaret who settled down near the lighthouse.
