When the box fell open, it revealed the face of a stranger.
At first glance, there was no salient reason the photograph should have carried any meaning. No familiar face filled the frame, no family memory appeared to live inside of it.
Until it was turned over, a handwritten note caressed the back of the image, left by the person in the photograph, thanking her dear friend who had stood behind the camera.
The face in the photograph belonged to a stranger. But the eye belonged to someone Akeem Baker knew by heart.
