Today is International Equal Pay Day - and fittingly, the unwomen Gender Snapshot report has landed. Unfortunately, not one single SDG 5 (gender equality) indicator is on track for 2030, and 1 in 3 gender-equality institutions have had their power stripped in just two years. On the other hand, the gender pay gap IS closing (around 0.2 to 0.5 percentage points annually) but it could be a whole lot faster. Equalising pay isn't just its own goal. It's one of the fastest ways to move the needle on all of those SDGs, because unequal pay ripples into everything: pension poverty, unequal roles at home and at work, and less freedom to move, relocate, or leave situations that aren't safe.
