If you have a home loan, this US decision could affect you in India.
On September 17th, the US Fed raised rates by 25 basis points to 3.75%–4%, its first hike since 2023. That could strengthen the dollar and put pressure on the rupee, making India’s dollar-priced crude imports costlier.
This may keep the RBI cautious, but it does not guarantee that your home-loan rate will stay unchanged.
If you have a floating-rate loan, review your statement and consider prepaying from surplus funds. As an example, prepaying ₹5 lakh on an 8.5% loan could save roughly ₹42,500 in first-year interest, depending on your loan details.
