City leaders in Mauldin shared more details Thursday about a proposed 1% sales tax referendum that would fund road and infrastructure projects.
The tax is projected to generate $19.6 million for city infrastructure projects and would be in place for up to eight years, starting in May 2027.
Additionally, the levy would only apply to non-essential purchases, like restaurant meals and hotel stays. Everyday necessities like groceries, gas, and prescription drugs would remain tax-exempt.
