JUST IN | In a 5-1 vote, Spartanburg County Council has approved a one-year freeze on any new data center developments in the county. The pause does not impact the Valara data center under construction on South Pine Street, which received approval from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services to build 11 combustion turbines to power the facility. NorthMark Compute and Cloud, the company behind the data center, also said Monday that the development will use between 1.2 million and 1.6 million gallons of water per day, up from the initial 459,000 gallon-daily projection.
