How much do the bears weigh? 
Wow. That’s personal. But excellent question. We were all thinking it. Unfortunately, we can’t simply ask the bears to step onto a scale. We tried. Once. They politely (well the definition of “politely” is up for interpretation) declined to participate in this aspect of science. Instead, mostly estimates, including Terrestrial LiDAR scanning technology, are used to determine just how much bear we’re dealing with. Katmai’s largest brown bears can weigh more than 1,400 pounds. Adult males typically weigh around 600–900 pounds in midsummer. Then they spend the rest of summer eating with the determination of an animal that knows winter is coming. By October and November, large males can weigh well over 1,000 pounds.
