Today is #WorldMaritimeDay 🚢 Much of everyday life depends on the ocean. From the food we eat and the energy we use to international trade in goods. Around 40% of the world's population lives within 100 kilometres of a coast, so safe seas and resilient coasts matter to everyone. This year’s theme “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence” is about turning maritime policy into practical results that deliver benefits for the people and the planet. Here’s how WMO is helping bring this theme to life: 🚢 WMO works closely with the imo_hq to ensure ships and mariners worldwide receive authoritative meteorological warnings and forecasts under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). 🚢 WMO and IMO together coordinate the Worldwide Met-Ocean Information and Warning Service, a system which divides oceans into 21 meteorological areas to provide meteorological forecasts and early warnings for international shipping. 🚢 Marine services depe...
