Trying to impress people isn't the same thing as being genuinely impressive.
A lot of us think we need people's approval.
We need their attention.
We need them to like us.
We need them to think we're interesting, successful, attractive, or important.
So we start performing.
We exaggerate.
We brag.
We show off.
We try too hard to prove ourselves.
And ironically, that's usually when we make fools of ourselves.
Because genuine confidence doesn't need to announce itself.
If you actually have a skill, a talent, experience, character, discipline, or something genuinely valuable about you, people will notice.
You don't have to force them to notice.
The harder you try to impress someone, the more obvious it becomes that you're seeking their validation.
And that's the paradox:
The person who desperately wants to be impressive usually isn't.
The person who doesn't need to impress anyone often ends up being the most impressive person in the room.
Stop performing for approval.
