The City of Columbia put on its annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show at Nifong Park on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20. The festival featured several live performers, a farmers market, and a section showcasing “lost arts,” like woodcarving, looming and weaving, as well as showcasing historical items that have been in families for generations.
Newton “Dee” Crosby was at the festival with the Mid-Missouri Woodcarvers. He says he hopes to showcase the unique art form to new people so woodworking skills won’t become obsolete.
“Having something to do with your hands that you can manipulate besides a phone where you’re just pushing buttons on it, I think, is probably better for the brain. It’s a cool skill. It’s a cool art, and I hate to see it die out,” Crosby said.
