DON’T FORCE THE ENTRY—READ WHAT’S GIVEN. A successful offensive-zone entry starts before the blue line. Attack with speed to push the defender back. Keep your head up, scan the defender’s feet and read the stick position. Their movement tells you which route is available. The focus: • Build speed before the blue line • Force the defender to manage the gap • Keep your feet moving with the puck • Read the defender’s feet and stick • Take the lane that opens • Attack space without slowing down Coaching point: The route should never be predetermined. Create speed, force a reaction and make the decision from the information in front of you. Speed creates pressure. The read creates the entry.
