THE DROP PASS ISN’T A TRICK—IT’S A TIMING PLAY.
A clean drop pass starts before the puck is released.
The puck carrier must sell the drive and leave the puck in a predictable space. The supporting player communicates early, times the route and receives without losing speed.
Then comes the finish:
• Keep the feet moving
• Receive forward
• Underhandle the puck
• Change the shooting angle
• Release before the goalie resets
Coaching point: Communication creates the exchange. Timing creates the space. Underhandling creates the quick finish.
Talk early. Connect at speed. Finish quickly.
