Some of the best lessons don’t happen in a classroom.
Today I got to show my daughter what I like to call the heart of the house, the furnace, and explain a little bit about how everything works.
What made it special wasn’t just teaching her about the furnace. It was seeing how interested she was. She asked questions, paid attention, and genuinely wanted to understand what I was showing her.
These are the little moments I know I’ll remember.
It’s time together, but it’s also a chance to pass down some of the knowledge I’ve learned over the years. She might never work in the trades, and that’s completely fine. But if one day something happens in her own home, maybe she’ll remember one of these conversations with Dad and understand what’s going on.
That’s what makes moments like this worth so much more than just fixing something around the house.
What’s something your parents taught you growing up that you still use today?
