In a 2016 general conference address, President dallinhoaks preached the importance of “opposition in all things” as Lehi taught in the Book of Mormon. Temptation, death, and grief are all necessary parts of our mortal existence, as they give us perspective and help us better appreciate the beauty in good things. This is not to say that we are meant to endure difficult periods alone. President Oaks went on to say, “He does ease the burdens of our afflictions and strengthen us to bear them” (“Opposition in All Things,” October 2016).
