In the Book of Mormon, the Zoramites tried to use their wealth and prosperity to claim a special relationship with God. They considered themselves more righteous than others, offering prayers like, “We thank thee, O God, for we are a chosen people unto thee, while others shall perish” (Alma 31:28).
This kind of exclusionary behavior is contradictory to the truth the Savior teaches us—we are all God’s children (1 Nephi 11:17), and through baptism and confirmation everyone has a place in God’s kingdom (Mosiah 18:8), no matter your wealth, race, or gender.
How are you helping to build a more inclusive and welcoming community of believers in your part of the world?
