A town that was nearly destroyed by an interstate, but was saved in large part by one man and local preservation efforts that helped get the town’s historic buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Now the interstate runs just beside and above the town! Known for its mining history, Wallace is located in Idaho’s Silver Valley, one of the world’s major silver-producing regions.
