Even people who think they know California probably haven’t heard of these two hidden gems in the desert! 🏜️ If you’re driving along Route 66, these stops just north of the historic highway offer perfect side trips. 🥾 🌋 Banshee Canyon: This unique Mojave Desert hike features rock formations full of small holes formed by a volcano millions of years ago. Look for the famous metal rings along the trail to climb the narrow slots. This 1.5-mile hike is a quick loop trail. ☀️ Kelso Dunes: Just 45 minutes west, you’ll find this 650-foot-tall dune field spanning 45 square miles. These dunes are famous for the low-pitched booming sound they make as you walk or slide down. Bring sun protection and plenty of water—and don’t underestimate the climb.
