What Holds Us.
It’s been a while since I got to just make photographs. Thank you kathyryan and chenpamela for the idea and the freedom to run with it. What ensued was a wild 36-hour strike mission into the mountains to photograph the show.
Over my life I have returned to the mountains again and again. It’s there where I’ve learned to focus on the fundamentals. I come here to think about what matters, what holds us. In these raw, wild places there is no place to hide from yourself. I have experienced awe, loss, sorrow and peace, and joy I can’t explain. The mountains do not judge. They remain the great neutral teacher.
Four of these photographs feature conrad_anker, someone who has committed a lifetime to a craft, in a place that was here long before him and will remain long after. The rest honor the place that nurtures us. The chaotic symmetry in rock and ice. Light moving across a glacier. Small things, easy to miss.
