In Focus: Christian Marclay’s ‘Sleeves and Covers’ series at White Cube Paris ✨
For ‘Sleeves and Covers’, Christian Marclay works with 7", 10" and 12" vintage record sleeves and covers from the 1950s and 1960s, creating unique monotype impressions on paper.
The artist applies ink directly to the original record packaging before passing it through a roller press. The resulting ‘ghost image’ captures traces of the original sleeve, including its imagery, folds, creases and signs of wear and tear.
The sleeves and covers are arranged in grids, their spare typographical designs reflecting a time when marketing records through the musician’s likeness was not yet common.
📍 The exhibition is on view until 10 October 2026 at White Cube Paris.
