A rare September nor'easter is expected to strengthen as it moves closer to the tri-state area, threatening wind gusts near 60 mph, coastal flooding, and 12-foot waves that could erase entire sections of beach. Some of the strong winds had already arrived before Friday, along with choppy waters off Long Island and the Jersey Shore. Expect that to continue, with gusts near 60 mph possibly in the afternoon, even in and around the New York City area. Coastal flood warnings, meanwhile, have been issued for a swath of tri-state shores. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for Long Island, New York City and Westchester County ahead of the storm. In New Jersey, Gov. Mikie Sherrill declared a state of emergency for eight counties, including Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties along the Jersey Shore, effective at 5 p.m. Friday. #nj #ny #stateofemergency #weather #breakingnews
