New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Friday that Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell submitted his resignation after a report accused him of sexually harassing a woman and trying to secure a promotion for a state employee he was dating. In a news conference, Sherrill said Caldwell's resignation comes after an independent investigation found that he "failed to uphold the responsibilities of his office" and violated policy "repeatedly." "After I received the report, the facts were clear. I took action right away," Sherrill said. The investigation began in May 2026 after Gov. Sherrill’s Chief Ethics Officer received an anonymous letter accusing Caldwell, 66, of acting inappropriately towards women. The State of New Jersey then hired the law firm Lowenstein Sandler to investigate Caldwell’s alleged misconduct. #nj #dalecaldwell #sherrill #politics
