Hundreds of flights at NYC-area airports were grounded for more than six hours Monday due to an FAA-issued ground stop that was the result of issues connected to TRACON, the air traffic control system in Philadelphia.
Flights in Philly and at LaGuardia Airport resumed in the afternoon, but at Newark Airport alone, more than 400 departing and arriving flights had already been scrapped by 4 p.m.
Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy blamed an Amtrak construction crew for the delays and cancellations, saying they accidentally cut into a fiber line in New Jersey, forcing the FAA to pause flights in the northeast. Repairs could take hours, according to officials.
