Nobody was home when a house caught fire in Phoenix Sunday night. Two dogs were.
Phoenix firefighters were called around 9:45 p.m. to a home near 51st Avenue and Southern. When they got there, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house. Crews went in with hoses, knocked the fire down, and searched every room.
No people were inside. But two dogs were, and both had gone down from the smoke.
Firefighters carried them out and used Fido bags on them. Those are oxygen masks shaped to fit a dog’s snout, so crews can get oxygen into an animal the same way they would a person. It worked. Phoenix Fire says both dogs were revived and survived, and they were taken to an animal hospital for more treatment.
Nobody was hurt. Four people who live in the home are displaced for now.
Fire investigators have not said what started it. The cause is undetermined and still under investigation.
Everything above comes from the Phoenix Fire Department.
