One of the ways we like to stay relevant on social media is to post content that is tied to a specific day. When it comes to videos from our print shop exhibit, “national holidays” help us with highlighting woodcuts and electrotypes from our collections. For today, September 27th, Channey letterpress printed three woodcuts from the Lewis Winter Collection for National Scarf Day. Much of the cuts in the Winter Collection are of clothing items and accessories because Winter designed cuts for local magazines, catalogs, and newspapers in the late 1880s through the 1890s. Lewis Winter was a woodcut artist and engraver who had his business at 627 J Street in Sacramento from 1888 to 1910. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #NationalScarfDay #SacHistoryMuseum #museum #printingpress #printing
