Why a carp's tasting your spot before it's even got eyes on the hookbait. They're covered in taste receptors, the barbels and the lips obviously but the skin as well, and the sensitivity is daft when you look it up. For some amino acids the threshold comes out around ten to the minus eight point five mol per litre, which means nothing until you turn it round and realise they can taste a spot from a long way off, flat calm, middle of the night, eyes shut. So that's the sense I'm fishing to. Not the colour, not the shape, not what the rig looks like from underneath. The food signal coming off what I've put out there is what pulls them in and holds them there. Which is why a small amount of the right stuff will out fish a barrow of the wrong stuff, and why a bait that's been down a few hours is often the one that goes. #carpfishing #carpfishinguk #carpbait #watercraft #brothercarp
