I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time lately just watching the betta fish in my aquarium. There is something profoundly humbling about a creature whose entire existence consists of floating aggressively near a plastic plant and waiting for food to drop from the sky. No existential dread. No overthinking a cricket cover drive or analyzing where it all went wrong. Just pure, simple floating. Sometimes I wonder if he’s judging the sheer chaos of human life happening on this side of the glass.
