I’m going to say something that may be unpopular: Not every coach should be giving you advice about everything. There are 28-year-old coaches giving relationship advice they’ve never had the life experience to understand. There are “executive coaches” who have never actually worked in an executive environment. A certificate can teach you frameworks. It can’t give you experience. I know what it’s like to sit in a boardroom, stay quiet when I should have spoken up, navigate corporate politics, make mistakes, and learn the hard way. That experience matters. If you’re going to invest in a coach, ask yourself: Has this person actually been where I’m trying to go?
