Growing practices make a difference. We're proud to say we're one of the few farms in the region to grow certified organic strawberries, and offer them for pick-your-own. A whole lot of care and attention goes into growing these delicious treats without chemical pesticides, fertilizers or herbicides.⠀ ⠀ For one thing, we never fumigate our land; instead, we rely on a healthy soil ecosystem rich in organic matter to keep the berry plants happy. This requires rotating fields and replanting our entire patch in virgin ground every few years. And instead of herbicide, we lay down straw mulch to suppress weeds, keep the berries warm in the winter, and build up our soils with healthy organic matter.⠀ ⠀ Ecological and organic farming is more challenging than conventional agriculture—from hand weeding to more costly biological and natural pest repellents and plant immune-boosters we use instead of synthetic bug-killers. ⠀ ⠀ In the end, all the work pays off and we see an incredible benefit from...
