Before he became a Secret Service agent, Terry Korpal was a young St. Louis police officer working in Pruitt-Igoe Housing complex. He describes what it was like policing one of the most notorious housing projects in St. Louis — a four-by-six-block area with roughly 13,000 residents and, at the time, just one police vehicle. Terry recalls being shot at, having rocks and bottles thrown at officers, Molotov cocktails and even appliances being dropped on police, and police cars being set on fire. But Terry's connection to Pruitt-Igoe went even deeper. His grandmother had lived there in 1959, when the housing projects were segregated. Years later, when Terry went to graduate school, his experience as a Pruitt-Igoe police officer and his family's connection to the neighborhood led him to make Pruitt-Igoe the subject of his master's thesis. A fascinating firsthand look at policing Pruitt-Igoe from someone who was actually there. #SLPOA #TheBrighterSideOfBlue #TerryKorpal #PruittIgoe #St...
