When a Range Rover Sport climbed a flooded dam with 750 TONNES of water rushing down every minute. πππ₯
This wasn't a normal off-road test.
Land Rover took a Range Rover Sport to a flooded dam spillway to demonstrate what its four-wheel-drive system, traction control and hill-climbing technology could do under extreme conditions.
With huge amounts of water rushing down the concrete surface, the challenge was simple to describe β but incredibly difficult to execute:
Keep the vehicle moving uphill while water is constantly flowing downhill.
The biggest problem isn't just the steep slope.
Water reduces tire grip, creates a constantly moving surface and can make it much harder for the tires to maintain consistent traction. At the same time, the vehicle has to overcome gravity while the drivetrain delivers enough torque to keep climbing.
This is where the Range Rover's off-road systems come into play. π
Its intelligent all-wheel-drive system can distribute torque between the whee...
