Hundreds of people have camped outside the regional government's offices in central Madrid for two days, demanding solutions to Spain's housing crisis after the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen, who had lived in her home for 71 years. When a vulture fund bought her building, the new owners demanded five times the rent, far more than her pension could cover. Protesters want laws to prevent similar evictions, a rent freeze, an end to speculation and more social housing, and are threatening a general strike. "We're gonna camp here until we make sure that we have some immediate measures," said Valeria Racu of the Madrid Renters Association. Spain's house and rent prices have doubled in the past decade. A royal decree granting some of the protesters' demands will be put to a vote on Tuesday. Ken Browne reports from Madrid. #Spain #Madrid #HousingCrisis #Eviction #Protest #RentFreeze #CGTN
