In 2019, Parkrose High School football and track coach Keanon Lowe walked into a classroom and came face-to-face with a student carrying a shotgun. Lowe reacted quickly, grabbing the weapon and getting it away from the student before another teacher took the gun. Instead of walking away from the young man, Lowe embraced him. He held him in his arms while they waited for police to arrive, offering comfort in what was an incredibly frightening moment. The student was experiencing a mental health crisis and, according to authorities, had intended to harm himself, not other students. Lowe later said he felt like he was put in that classroom for a reason. He also said he was thankful that no one was hurt. We talk so much about protecting people from danger, but sometimes protection also looks like compassion. May we all remember that sometimes, a little compassion can change the entire direction of a moment. #KeanonLowe #ChooseCompassion #MentalHealthAwareness #BlackExcellence #Human...
