🚀 BMW’s 2001 “Landspeed” commercial had one of the smartest plot twists in automotive advertising. The ad initially makes it look like the star is a land-speed rocket blasting across a desert at extreme speed. For nearly the entire film, the camera tracks alongside the machine so smoothly that you barely question how the footage is being captured. Then the rocket deploys its parachutes and slows down, while the camera keeps flying past it. That is when BMW reveals the truth: the entire sequence was being filmed from a black E39 M5 driving alongside the rocket car. The punchline was simple, with BMW calling the M5 “the fastest saloon car on the planet.” The commercial was created for BMW South Africa by TBWA Hunt Lascaris and became an award-winning example of letting the product prove the message without overexplaining it. Is this one of the greatest car commercials ever made? What are your thoughts? 🤔💭 ( Media: BMW ) #bmw #m5 #e39 #advertising #cars
