END OF AN ERA 🎢 Today, September 29, 2026, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced that X2 has been permanently retired. Originally opening as X in 2002, the coaster introduced an unusual fourth-dimension ride experience to Magic Mountain. It was transformed into X2 and reopened in 2008, becoming one of the park’s most recognizable attractions. X2 had been closed since July. Six Flags says that although the attraction consistently passed safety tests, the park ultimately made the decision to retire it amid concerns surrounding guest confidence and ongoing litigation involving alleged rider injuries. For more than two decades as X and X2, that massive structure on the hillside became part of the landscape of Six Flags Magic Mountain. These two photographs from the Cow Missing archive capture a little piece of that history. 🎢 Did you ever ride X or X2?
