Classic 🔥💯 Shawty, released in 2007, paired Plies with T-Pain at a moment when both artists were riding serious momentum in Southern hip-hop. Plies had just broken out with his debut album The Real Testament, building a reputation as a gritty, street-focused rapper out of Fort Myers, Florida. T-Pain, meanwhile, was already established as the genre defining voice of Auto-Tuned R&B hooks, having turned that sound into a signature after his own breakout years earlier. The track became one of the defining collaborations of that era, blending Plies’ blunt verses with T-Pain’s melodic, catchy chorus. It went on to become a commercial hit, climbing the charts and helping cement the hook heavy formula that dominated late 2000s rap and R&B crossover records, with T-Pain frequently sought out as the go to hook man of that period. #rapmusic #hiphop #tpain #plies
