Hundreds of people have camped outside the regional government's offices in central Madrid for two days, demanding solutions to Spain's housing crisis after the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen, who had lived in her home for 71 years.⁣ ⁣ When a vulture fund bought her building, the new owners demanded five times the rent, far more than her pension could cover.⁣ ⁣ Protesters want laws to prevent similar evictions, a rent freeze, an end to speculation and more social housing, and are threatening a general strike. "We're gonna camp here until we make sure that we have some immediate measures," said Valeria Racu of the Madrid Renters Association.⁣ ⁣ Spain's house and rent prices have doubled in the past decade. A royal decree granting some of the protesters' demands will be put to a vote on Tuesday.⁣ ⁣ Ken Browne reports from Madrid.⁣ ⁣ #Spain #Madrid #HousingCrisis #Eviction #Protest #RentFreeze #CGTN
