Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for a woman to succeed Antonio Guterres as UN Secretary-General, saying the time has come for the post to go to a woman from Latin America.
Addressing the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Sanchez called it "a historic debt we must settle," saying the UN was founded on the promise that all human beings would have a place in the organization.
Eight candidates are vying to succeed Guterres, who steps down at the end of this year after two five-year terms.
