Optimax began in a barn in Webster, New York, in 1991, using computer-controlled machining to speed up custom optics production. Today, the company makes specialty optics near Rochester, a city with a long history of working with light and lenses.
Flynn brought me in for two days to photograph the people and processes behind the company's new identity. Alongside the factory work, we found color, playful moments and a great deal of care in small, custom batches.
