The California Highway Patrol has identified the officer killed in an on duty crash Monday evening as 44-year-old Officer Brian Liles. CHP says Liles was involved in a traffic collision around 5:11 p.m. on northbound Highway 99 just north of Highway 190 in Tipton. Liles suffered critical injuries and died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. Liles was a more than 16-year veteran of the CHP. He graduated from the CHP Academy and was assigned to the San Jose Area in 2010. He later served in Hayward and Fresno before transferring to the Visalia Area office in 2019. Gov. Gavin Newsom released a statement following Liles’ death, offering condolences to his family, friends and CHP colleagues.
