How much electricity does it take to power a city, and where does it come from? Students in Professor Bert Vermeulen’s Engineering Thermodynamics went looking for answers in Porto. They started with wave energy research at the University of Porto, then toured a combined cycle power plant and the Crestuma-Lever hydroelectric dam, comparing how each one works, what it costs, and what it does to the environment.
