Cinematographer Patrick Alexander Stewart sharing a #R3Dsnapshot for Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.
"All 27 stories we shot are my favorites for different reasons, but the McCarthy Trials images are among the ones I keep coming back to. They're Black and White, and I love the grittiness — that smoky depth that carries all the way back to the windows, which still held detail even with Extended Highlights engaged on the RED V-RAPTOR XL [X].
We turned off color on the monitors for this segment so we could commit to the black-and-white look from the start rather than finding it later. I didn't want blown-out, nuclear-white windows behind the actors — I wanted that texture and depth held all the way into the brightest part of the frame. No LUTs on this one either; we shot a clean negative and shaped the final look with my colorist, Gareth Cook. Lens-wise we were mostly on the Fujinon Cabrio 19-90, with primes brought in where I wanted shallower depth of field."
