POV: BRUV Episode 17 - Moray eel in Tokelau πΉπ°
Hello from Tokelau ππ½, where we are hard at work surveying biodiversity in reef, mid-ocean, and deepwater sites. We were happy to spot these moray eels off Nukunonu atoll during a remote seabed camera deployment.
Moray eels have poor eyesight but a keen sense of smell, which they use to navigate the world around them. These eels were curious about our cameras (and the bait within!), resulting in these playful shots from the ocean floor.
Baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVs) are a scientific surveying tool that uses unmanned high-definition cameras to spot and record species on a reef. In this
#POVBRUV series, we leave the humans behind and watch what happens.
