Yesterday, walking into Waterstones in London with Macarena Calvo macarenacalvopaisajismo, we came across a copy of The Contemporary Garden, edited by Annie Guilfoyle guilfoyleannie and published by phaidonpress.
Among the gardens featured in the book are Casa Acanto, a garden I designed in Mexico; Palmar de Panquehue in Chile, by Macarena Calvo and Cristóbal Elgueta paisajismoecosistemico ; and a garden in José Ignacio, Uruguay, by Amalia Robredo.
Latin American landscape design is increasingly being seen internationally not simply as a collection of individual practices, but as a body of work with its own voices and identities. We come from very different countries, climates, ecologies and cultural landscapes, and our work is certainly not homogeneous. There is however,a growing recognition of ways of making gardens that emerge from our particular relationships with place and culture.
