China's New Robotic Fish That Could Be Used For Underwater Surveillance
It looks like a golden arowana, but it's the BG-5, a 3kg underwater robot by Boyagongdao.
It operates about 16 feet down at roughly 1.3 mph.
Instead of a propeller, its tail has flexible joints that move like a real fish, pushing water back to swim forward.
It detects obstacles and changes direction on its own.
That makes it useful where bigger drones struggle: narrow waterways, shallow inspection zones, places you'd rather not send a diver.
Multiple units could eventually work as a group for inspection or monitoring.
Despite the "spy fish" buzz online, there's no public evidence this one's been used for spying.
