The scoop on the bachelor troop 🦍 Kitoko, the new male gorilla at the San Diego Zoo, is well on his way to finding his footing with Ekuba and Denny. At six years old, Kitoko is learning how to take social cues given to him by the older males, and Ekuba and Denny have been showing him the ropes. You may see chasing, vocalizing and other actions as the bachelor boys get to know each other better, all a normal part of the process. Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, and Ekuba, Denny, and Kitoko are ambassadors for their counterparts in Central Africa, where our teams work with local communities in Cameroon to protect this remarkable species.
