The legendary movie ‘101 Dalmatians’ (1961) was a revolutionary milestone for Disney, directly saving its animation department from financial collapse. 🎥🤍 After the massive box-office failure and high production costs of Sleeping Beauty (1959), Walt Disney considered shutting down feature animation entirely. To reduce costs, artist Ken Anderson introduced the Xerox process, a technology that allowed animators original graphite drawings to be transferred directly onto animation cels without hand-inking. This created a distinctive, graphic, and sketch-like visual style with sharp black outlines, perfectly suited for rendering thousands of dalmatian spots and the iconic design of Cruella de Vil. The first Disney animated feature set in a contemporary, real-world setting rather than a classic fairy-tale realm. The film became a massive box-office hit, earning over $14 million in its initial run and proving that Disney animation could remain modern, efficient, and profitable. #disney...
