Fuelled by a reverence for a very specific evocative and emotional sound from the ‘90s and 2000s, the music of American duo After is the embodiment of Y2K mall-pop. The wistfulness of their sound often evokes a sense of déjà vu in first-time listeners: “People are like, ‘I know this song already’... We’re trying to create that feeling of a dispatch from another life or time.” ⁣ ⁣ Stumbling upon After’s music feels like “finding this old gem” for the band’s younger fans, many of whom have never known the optimistic futurism felt at the turn of the millennium: “It’s like a dream for them, the promise of Y2K.” And so After are in the business of crafting strange, sparkling snowglobes of song, capturing evocative scenes that listeners can step into – while still being a thoroughly elastic, modern undertaking.⁣ ⁣ aftertheband are on The Cover.
