In 1804, a group of Revolutionary War survivors met at City Hall on Wall Street with a radical idea: save the artifacts of America's new democracy before they disappeared. Led by merchant John Pintard and Mayor DeWitt Clinton, they founded The New-York Historical Society to protect the letters, paintings, maps, and documents that built the nation. Over two centuries later, and now known as The New York Historical, New York's oldest museum is still protecting the history of New York and the United States. #Shorts #NYC #NewYorkHistory #AmericanHistory #Museums #NewYorkHistorical #WallStreet #RevolutionaryWar #NYCHistory #THIRTEEN #PBS #TheStoryOfNewYork #TreasuresOfNewYork
